June 13, 2008
- Following a request by China Mobile for all equipment suppliers to upgrade the TD-SCDMA trial networks in eight major Chinese cities with the TD-HSDPA (Time Division-High Speed Downlink Packet Access) functionality by year-end 2008, Datang Telecom announced on May 10 that it has completed upgrading China Mobile's TD-SCDMA networks in Shanghai and Guangzhou with HSDPA functionality. In the meantime, Potevio also claimed that it has completed the same project in Tianjin and Qinhuangdao. Schedules for the completion of upgrade projects in the remaining cities were not yet disclosed.

- According to Sohu News, China's TDIA (TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance) plans to add several thousand new TD-SCDMA base stations in Beijing, in a bid to demonstrate TDIA's aggressive stance on the commercialization of TD-SCDMA services. Although the exact number of base stations was not yet revealed, the TDIA claimed that China Mobile will need to deploy an addition of 700 to 1,000 base stations to optimize network coverage in said region.

- On May 30, 2008, China's MII (Ministry of Information Industry) granted network access licenses to 29 TD-SCDMA terminals by 19 firms. Soon afterwards, at the International Expo for the Mobile Phone Components Manufacturing Industry and Global Purchasing held in Tianjin from May 30 through 6 June, China's TDIA revealed that there are nine more TD-SCDMA mobile phones granted the license, Sina News reported. To date, the MII has released network access license to 38 TD-SCDMA terminals manufactured by 21 firms, according to the same report.
